Academy for Lifelong Learning of Cape Cod, Inc.

The Academy was formed to promote an often overlooked resource on Cape Cod – the skills, wit, and wisdom of our retired population.  It challenges its members to explore new areas of interest in peer-supported learning groups and provides them with an opportunity to maintain intellectual vigor in an educationally supportive environment and engage in satisfying social interaction with their peers.

Volume Seven, Number One                                                   Fall 2008

WELCOME TO FALL ’08 AT THE ACADEMY FOR LIFELONG LEARNING, A HEARTY WELCOME TO OUR RETURNING FRIENDS AND TO THE NEW MEMBERS WHO, WE HOPE, WILL BECOME OUR FRIENDS.

This year promises to be a very exciting one for the Academy. We have many new courses and new coordinators to teach them, and of course, the old reliables that we all enjoy so much.

This year we expect to top 800 members and we have two new venues - The Bourne Community Center on Main Street in Buzzard’s Bay and The Dennis Library in East Dennis.  We will be offering 72 courses at 9 venues. There is something for everyone and with so many locations, hopefully you won’t have to use too much gas to find the courses that interest you.

This past year the Academy has been involved in more social events than ever before. To that end, we have put some of the photos taken at these events on our Front Page.  We’ve spent time in Newport at the theatre there and enjoyed a wonderful buffet lunch. We watched baseball in Pawtucket and our team won. We stayed local to celebrate the Chinese New Year. These are just a few of the events we had this past year, and we can promise you that there will be more this year.  There will be something for everyone. So reserve early and join us for some wonderful times ahead.

Speaking of times ahead, please try to join us at the Open House on August 10th, from 1:00 P.M – 3:30 P.M. at the Commons Building Cafeteria, details in your summer newsletter and local papers. Coordinators will be there to discuss the courses they will be offering and there will be Registrars to sign you up. Just bring your checkbook. There will be ALL members there to help you with your choices. I look forward to meeting as many of you as I can. Most of the Board of Directors will be there, so come by and say Hello!

Have a wonderful semester.

Sincerely,

Norma Cohen
